A ulexite é um mineral hidratado de borato de sódio e cálcio que forma delicadas massas fibrosas brancas e sedosas em leitos lacustres secos e depósitos evaporíticos. As fibras opticas paralelas que constituem os seus cristais transmitem imagens da superfície inferior para a superior, o que lhe valeu o apelido de "televisão de pedra" ou "pedra TV". Ocorre principalmente na Califórnia e no Nevada (EUA) e no Chile, sendo apreciada como curiosidade mineral.
