O jete é uma variedade de linhite (carvão) orgânica, formada a partir de madeira de árvores da espécie Araucaria que foi comprimida e preservada no fundo do mar. É preto, leve e tem uma textura uniforme que permite uma polimento excelente. Whitby, no Yorkshire, Inglaterra, é famoso pela sua produção de jete de alta qualidade, usado extensivamente em joalharia de luto vitoriana. O jete sintético (vidro negro) e o azeviche espanhol são materiais substitutos comuns.
