About Celestine
Celestine (strontianite) is a strontium sulfate mineral named for its characteristic pale blue, sky-like color, though colorless, white, and greenish varieties also occur. It forms elegant tabular crystals and geodes within sedimentary carbonate and evaporite sequences, with world-famous crystal geodes found on Kelleys Island, Ohio, and near Put-in-Bay in Lake Erie. Transparent blue faceted celestine has a delicate beauty though its softness and cleavage limit jewelry use.
