About Violane
Violane is a rare violet to blue-purple variety of diopside (calcium magnesium silicate) whose unusual color is caused by manganese substitution, found in only a few localities including Val d'Aosta and Piedmont in Italy, and Saint Marcel in the Western Alps. First described in 1876, it occurs in manganese-rich metamorphic skarns and is fashioned into cabochons and small carvings. Its distinctive violet-blue color, unique among pyroxene minerals, makes it highly sought by collectors.
