About Umbalite
Umbalite is a trade name for a purplish-pink to raspberry-red pyrope-spessartine garnet from alluvial deposits in the Umba River Valley of Tanzania, noted for its distinctive pinkish-red color that often shifts between pink and orange depending on the light source. Discovered in the 1970s, umbalite became popular for its warm raspberry hues that occupy a unique niche between pink tourmaline and rhodolite garnet in the gem market. Fine stones combine excellent brilliance with a color reminiscent of ripe raspberries.
