About Star Sapphire
Star Sapphire is a corundum displaying a four- or six-rayed asterism caused by silk-like rutile or hematite inclusions intersecting at angles within the gem, producing a ghostly floating star visible under direct light. The Star of India, a 563-carat blue star sapphire from Sri Lanka, is the world's largest gem-quality sapphire and resides at the American Museum of Natural History. Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Australia produce the most significant star sapphires.
