About Schorl
Schorl is the most common member of the tourmaline group, a black iron-rich variety that forms lustrous opaque prismatic crystals with distinctive vertical striations in granitic pegmatites and schists worldwide. While its opaque nature limits its use as a faceted gemstone, schorl has been used since antiquity in carved beads and mourning jewelry, and is widely employed in crystal healing practices. Large, well-formed schorl crystals from Brazil and Pakistan are popular display specimens.
