About Phosgenite

Phosgenite is a rare lead carbonate chloride mineral forming colorless to pale yellow, white, or pale brown tetragonal prismatic crystals with an adamantine to resinous luster in the oxidized zones of lead ore deposits. Named for its content of the phosgene (chlorocarbonyl) component, it occurs in notable localities at Monteponi in Sardinia, Italy; Matlock in Derbyshire, England; and Broken Hill in New South Wales, Australia. Rare transparent material has been faceted into collector gems notable for their high refractive index and adamantine fire.
