About Augite
Augite is a dark green to black calcium magnesium iron pyroxene and one of the most abundant rock-forming minerals in basalts and gabbros worldwide. Gem-quality transparent brown to greenish crystals are occasionally faceted for collectors, though its dark color and strong cleavage limit its appeal as a jewelry stone. Large, well-formed augite crystals from Italy's Lazio volcanic region are prized mineral specimens.
