Mahenge has emerged as one of the most exciting spinel sources in the world, producing vivid hot pink to red spinels that rival the finest historical stones. The Mahenge plateau's marble-hosted deposits yield crystals with exceptional saturation and fluorescence, creating an almost electric appearance. A major discovery in 2007 brought Mahenge spinels to international attention when clusters of large, clean crystals were unearthed, and prices have risen steadily since.
