About Mellite
La mellita es un raro organo-mineral: el sal de aluminio del ácido mellítico de origen biótico, que se forma por la oxidación de la lignita y el carbón, produciendo cristales tetragonales de color miel a naranja pálido con lustre resinoso. Hallada principalmente en sedimentos carbonosos de Alemania, Bohemia y Rusia, es uno de los pocos minerales de origen orgánico reconocidos por la IMA. Sus delicados cristales translúcidos son de gran interés para los coleccionistas de minerales inusuales y rarezas de la mineralogía.
