About Copal
El copal es una resina vegetal subfossilizada o fósil relativamente reciente —con una antigüedad de solo cientos a pocos miles de años—, que contrasta con el ámbar verdadero, cuya antigüedad es de millones de años. Procede principalmente de árboles del género Copaifera y otras especies de África, América Central y América del Sur. Es usado en joyería como alternativa asequible al ámbar, del que puede ser difícil de distinguir a simple vista, aunque es significativamente menos duro, más frágil y sensible a los disolventes. El copal colombiano y el de Madagascar son los más conocidos en el mercado de gemas alternativas.
