About Yttrium Aluminium Garnet
Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (YAG) is a synthetic garnet-structured oxide best known as the host material for Nd:YAG lasers used in surgery, manufacturing, and rangefinders, but also faceted as a diamond simulant in colorless form or in a wide range of colors produced by different dopants. Introduced in the 1960s before cubic zirconia became dominant, colorless YAG was widely used as a diamond substitute in jewelry. Today, various colored YAG gems continue to be produced for collectors and specialty optical applications.
