About Snowflake Obsidian
Snowflake Obsidian is a variety of volcanic glass distinguished by white to gray spherical or snowflake-like cristobalite crystal clusters embedded within its black glassy matrix, creating a striking pattern resembling snowflakes on a dark winter sky. It forms when obsidian lava slowly devitrifies over time, with the growing cristobalite spherulites giving the stone its characteristic speckled appearance. Primary sources include Utah and Oregon, USA, where it is popular for cabochons and decorative carvings.
