About Nosean
Nosean is a sodium aluminosilicate sulfate feldspathoid mineral in the sodalite group, typically forming gray to blue, white, or black octahedral to cubic crystals embedded in volcanic phonolites and related silica-undersaturated lavas with a vitreous luster. Named after German mineralogist Karl Wilhelm Nose, it occurs in volcanic rocks in the Eifel region of Germany, the Canary Islands, and elsewhere. Transparent faceted nosean is exceptionally rare and collected as a curiosity gem from unusual volcanic localities.
