About Lazurite
Lazurite is the blue sodium calcium aluminosilicate sulfate mineral that is the primary blue component of lapis lazuli, responsible for its iconic ultramarine color due to sulfur radical anions (S₃⁻) trapped in the sodalite-group framework structure. It forms in contact metamorphic limestones and is found as individual crystals and lapis lazuli rock in Afghanistan, Chile, Russia, and the United States. Pure lazurite crystals are rarely seen as individual gems; the mineral is most significant as the chromophore of lapis lazuli.
