About Hessonite
Hessonite is the cinnamon-brown to orange-brown variety of grossular garnet, colored by iron and manganese, with a characteristic "treacly" or swirling internal appearance caused by inclusions of diopside and apatite giving a heat-wave effect. It is one of the oldest known gemstones, prized in ancient Greek, Roman, and Indian traditions where it was called "gomeda" and associated with Vedic astrological properties. Fine hessonite is sourced primarily from Sri Lanka's gem gravels, Brazil, and Madagascar.
