About Grossular
Grossular is a calcium aluminum garnet occurring in a wide range of colors—colorless, yellow, orange, brown, pink, and the highly prized vivid green tsavorite and hessonite orange-brown varieties. It forms in metamorphic calc-silicate rocks and in contact metasomatic environments, with important sources in Tanzania, Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Canada. The green tsavorite variety, discovered in Tanzania and Kenya near Tsavo National Park in the 1960s, has become one of the most valuable garnets.
