About Ferro-axinite (Axinite-(Fe))
Ferro-axinite (Axinite-(Fe)) is the iron-dominant member of the axinite mineral group, forming the characteristic wedge-shaped, bladed crystals in clove-brown to violet hues that the axinite group is known for. Found in contact metamorphic rocks and hydrothermal veins, classic localities include the Bourg d'Oisans valley in France and Cornwall, England, where beautifully transparent brown to violet specimens have been collected for centuries. Faceted ferro-axinite is a striking, unusual collector gem.
