About Vesuvianite (Idocrase)
Vesuvianite, also called Idocrase, is a complex calcium aluminum silicate mineral occurring in green, yellow-green, brown, blue, and purple colors with a vitreous to resinous luster, most famously discovered at the base of Mount Vesuvius in Italy. Californite, a jade-like massive green variety, is found in Fresno County, California, while transparent gemmy stones occur in Quebec and Pakistan. Its range of colors and the fine crystals from classic European localities make it a diverse and interesting collector's gem.
