About Star Ruby
Star Ruby is a corundum variety displaying a six-rayed asterism caused by needle-like rutile inclusions oriented in three directions within the crystal, producing a luminous floating star when viewed under a single light source. Myanmar's Mogok Valley produces the world's finest star rubies, with deep red pigeon's blood stones displaying strong, sharp stars being the most valuable. The most famous, the Rosser Reeves Star Ruby at 138.7 carats, resides in the Smithsonian Institution.
