About Siderite
Siderite is an iron carbonate mineral displaying yellow-brown, brownish-red, or greenish hues with a vitreous to pearly luster on cleavage faces, sometimes forming fine rhombohedral crystals or botryoidal masses. It is an important iron ore mineral found in sedimentary ironstones, hydrothermal veins, and metamorphic rocks worldwide, with superb crystal specimens from the Panasqueira mine in Portugal and the Alps. Gem-quality transparent crystals have been faceted into unusual collector stones.
