About Omphacite
Omphacite is a sodium calcium magnesium iron aluminum silicate clinopyroxene, the primary mineral in the metamorphic rock eclogite, typically forming compact granular green masses of varying intensity alongside garnet in deep crustal and subducted oceanic crust environments. It occurs in high-pressure metamorphic terranes worldwide, including Norway's Western Gneiss Region, the Swiss Alps, and China's Dabie-Sulu belt. The ornamental rock "omphacitite" or jade-like omphacite-rich eclogite has been fashioned into carvings and cabochons.
