About Hiddenite
Hiddenite is the rare green variety of spodumene, a lithium aluminum silicate, colored by trace chromium to produce vivid emerald-green to yellowish-green hues with strong pleochroism showing yellow-green, blue-green, and emerald-green depending on viewing direction. It was first discovered at Stony Point, Alexander County, North Carolina, USA, in 1879 by W.E. Hidden, and remains one of the rarest colored gemstones, with limited production from its namesake locality and additional sources in Afghanistan and Brazil. Top-quality chromium-rich hiddenite rivals emerald in color intensity and commands high collector prices.
