About Hambergite
Hambergite is a rare beryllium borate mineral, typically forming colorless to white orthorhombic crystals with a vitreous luster and an unusually high birefringence that causes noticeable doubling of facet reflections. It was first described from the Toscan district of Norway in 1890 and named for Swedish mineralogist Axel Hamberg, with gem-quality material found in pegmatites in Madagascar and Afghanistan. Faceted hambergite is treasured by collectors for its extreme birefringence and exceptional clarity.
