About Fire Agate

Fire agate is a unique variety of chalcedony from Mexico and the American Southwest containing thin, iridescent layers of limonite (iron oxide) trapped between the chalcedony layers, creating spectacular spectral colors—orange, red, green, and gold—that appear to burn from within the stone. Unlike most agates, fire agate is cut with a domed top that must be carefully contoured to maximize the iridescent layers beneath, making each finished gem a unique creation. The finest material comes from Slaughter Mountain in Arizona and Calvillo in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
