About Elbaite
Elbaite is the most gem-important and colorful tourmaline species, encompassing rubellite (pink to red), indicolite (blue), verdelite (green), watermelon tourmaline (pink core and green rim), and paraíba tourmaline (neon blue-green). Named after Elba Island, Italy, where it was first found, it occurs in lithium-rich granitic pegmatites across Brazil, Afghanistan, Mozambique, Nigeria, and California. The paraíba variety—with its unprecedented neon copper-blue color—commands among the highest per-carat prices of any colored gemstone.
