About Antigorite
Antigorite is a platy, layered variety of serpentine mineral typically appearing in dark green to blackish green massive form in metamorphic ultramafic rocks. It forms as a result of the hydrothermal alteration of olivine and pyroxene minerals at depth. Polished antigorite slabs reveal attractive green mottling and are used as decorative stone, and it sometimes occurs within the green mineral mix sold commercially as serpentine or verde antique.
