About Kunzite
Kunzite is the pink to violet variety of spodumene, a lithium aluminum silicate, colored by manganese and exhibiting strong pleochroism that displays pale pink, deeper pink-violet, and colorless when viewed from different directions. It was first described in 1902 from Pala, California, USA, and named for gemologist George Frederick Kunz of Tiffany & Co., with the finest gem-quality material sourced from Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar, and Pakistan. Kunzite is popular in fine jewelry for its delicate pink and lavender hues, though it is susceptible to color fading under prolonged UV exposure.
