About Shortite
Shortite is a rare sodium calcium carbonate mineral that forms pale yellow to colorless orthorhombic crystals with a vitreous luster in trona-bearing evaporite deposits in the Green River Formation of Wyoming, USA. Named in honor of mineralogist Maxwell N. Short, it is seldom encountered outside of mineral collections and is of scientific interest for understanding the geochemistry of ancient lake environments. Transparent crystals are occasionally faceted as curiosities.
