About Pezzottaite

Pezzottaite is a cesium beryllium lithium aluminum silicate, related to beryl but with a distinct crystal structure, typically forming raspberries-pink to deep magenta-red trigonal crystals with a vitreous luster. It was discovered in 2002 at Sakavalana mine in Madagascar—initially mistaken for red beryl (bixbite)—and subsequently named for Italian mineralogist Federico Pezzotta. Faceted pezzottaite with intense raspberry to crimson color is extraordinarily rare, commanding significant collector premiums.
