About Nepheline
Nepheline is a sodium potassium aluminum silicate feldspathoid mineral forming colorless, white, gray, yellowish, or rarely blue-green prismatic hexagonal crystals with a greasy to vitreous luster in silica-undersaturated igneous rocks. Named from the Greek for "cloud" because it becomes cloudy when immersed in acid, it forms in syenites, phonolites, and nephelinites worldwide including Greenland, Norway, South Africa, and Canada. Gem-quality transparent material is rarely faceted, making cut nepheline a mineralogical curiosity for collectors.
