About Hydrogrossular

Hydrogrossular is a calcium aluminum silicate hydroxide end-member of the garnet group in which silicon is partially replaced by hydroxyl groups, occurring in compact green, white, or pink masses resembling jade with a waxy to greasy luster. The vivid green variety, known as transvaal jade or African jade, was quarried in South Africa and resembles imperial jadeite, having been marketed as jade in the early twentieth century. It is typically carved into beads, cabochons, and ornamental objects.
