About Franklinite
Franklinite is a zinc iron manganese oxide mineral in the spinel group, characterized by its opaque black appearance with a metallic to submetallic luster and octahedral crystal habit. It is named after and intimately associated with the world-famous Franklin Furnace zinc deposit in New Jersey, USA, one of the most mineralogically diverse localities on Earth. Faceting is impossible due to opacity, but well-formed crystals are highly sought by mineral collectors.
