About Fibrolite

Fibrolite is the fibrous, silky variety of sillimanite, an aluminum silicate mineral that forms in high-grade metamorphic rocks under extreme temperature and pressure. Its silky, parallel fibers produce attractive chatoyancy when cut en cabochon, and the finest gray-blue material from Sri Lanka and Myanmar is occasionally faceted or cut into cat's eye gems. Like all sillimanite, fibrolite has perfect cleavage in one direction and can be challenging to cut.
