Danburite is a calcium borosilicate mineral forming prismatic, diamond-shaped crystals in colorless, pale yellow, or delicate pink hues with excellent transparency and good hardness, making it an underrated gem for faceting. Named after Danbury, Connecticut, where it was first described, fine gem material comes from Mexico, Madagascar, Myanmar, and Japan. Its high luster, occasional cat's eye effect in fibrous varieties, and resemblance to topaz at far lower cost make it a rewarding collector gem.
