About Crocoite
Crocoite is a vivid, flame-orange to red lead chromate mineral that forms spectacular, elongated, striated prismatic crystals with an intense adamantine luster in the oxidized zones of lead ore deposits. The world's finest and most prized specimens come from the Adelaide Mine at Dundas, Tasmania, Australia, where enormous, brilliant orange crystals have produced some of the most spectacular mineral specimens ever found. Despite its stunning color, crocoite's softness and perfect cleavage prevent its use as a cut gem.
