About Covellite
Covellite is a vivid indigo blue to deep blue copper sulfide mineral with an extraordinary metallic luster that shifts between inky blue, purple, and gold depending on the angle of light and surface orientation. Found in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, particularly at Butte, Montana, and in the Italian volcano Vesuvius, it is too soft for jewelry but is collected for its spectacular metallic iridescence. Polished slabs display an almost supernatural interplay of deep blue and brassy gold.
